About Us

All I’ve got left is a memory of an evening with Acoustic Child

Acoustic Child are Ryan Wilson (Vocals / guitar) and Craig Went ( Guitar and backing vocals). Best described as a eclectic mix of acoustic blues and jazz with a twinge of rock. These two mid twenties lads feel they have found their own individual style after years of exploration.

Although Acoustic Child have only been around for a short time the spirit has been alive for a number of years. “We like to think that the previous bands and experiences have helped us to learn from mistakes we have made” Says a smiling Ryan. He continues “We have been on the circuit for years now but this time it feels right. The music has a deeper meaning and a style that we call our own”

Indeed, both Craig and Ryan have been floating around the Sheffield music scene since the late 90’s without a great deal of success. They first met in 98 when Craig joined Rapid City as lead guitarist. Back then Ryan was a drummer and had his feet bolted firmly to the back of the stage out of view. Rapid City faded out very quickly and was replaced Furious George . For the first time both Craig and Ryan were at the front of the stage with guitars “That’s when any ideas of Acoustic Child started” Says Craig as he rolls up a cigarette.

Furious George were a four piece rock / punk band who played the Sheffield cycle for a couple of years but never really met their full potential. After the release of their second EP, ‘336 milli seconds of Hope’ They acrimoniously split leaving behind a roll of secluded gigs and a feeling of unacccomplishment.

The decline of Furious George was the catalyst for the creation of what was to eventually become Acoustic Child. “Craig and I always wanted to carry on with Furious George but with hindsight it was the best thing that could have happened. We pulled together and decided to carry on writing and working on ideas even if we weren’t gigging”. Says Ryan while sipping a strangely milky cup of tea. Craig interjects “we had no choice with the split but we played out the rest of the gigs with another band, Highway Child. We were just a cover band but it was fun to play music that we enjoyed and to have a good time on stage”.

When the last of the old Furious George gigs ran out, Highway Child was put on the back burner. Craig and Ryan began writing with the idea of forming another electric band. After a time, new members did not materialise but by then both guys had already sensed potential in the acoustic songs and sound they were creating.
After a year of writing and practising, Acoustic Child played their first live gig at the Greenroom in April 2005. Following a busy year of gigs, name changes (they were formally known as ‘Wilson / Went duo’ and ‘Kingsize’) and new songs, Acoustic Child have found both the style and the audience. With a series of gigs booked around Yorkshire and an EP to be released in June, the duo feel that 2006 could be the year. “ We seem to be setting our goals higher and higher each time we talk. Our only ambition was to play a few gigs at the start and now we are aiming to play festivals and release the cd”. Craig says with an infectious smile that quickly turns into a laugh”.

Acoustic Child are quickly gaining critical acclaim and support because of their 'from the heart lyrics’ and constant groove. The boys first release, ‘All I Have Left Is The Memories’ will be released independently in June and will undoubtedly indebt them even more to the Sheffield crowd and music scene.
